Professions

Professions are the main 'jobs' of Guild Wars. Ranging from a warrior to an elementalist, these occupations provide for numerous different varieties of fighting styles to fit any player. Your choice in profession is also what initially decides your character's basic look and clothing style, to make sure the character is prepared ideally for the path they have chosen to follow.

[edit] The Main/Primary Professions

Guild Wars has six main professions, which vary from the sturdy warrior to the graceful ranger and the terrifying necromancer. These are the only professions available in Prophecies and are otherwise known as 'core' professions; meaning they are also available in ever other Guild Wars game. Your primary profession is chosen upon character creations, and is the main thing that defines your character's look as well as what abilities they have.

[edit] Secondary Professions

Secondary professions are available a bit later in the games and allow for you to take up another profession to compliment your primary one. Such examples would be ranger/elementalist or warrior/monk. However, the full effects of a secondary profession, though it can be any one of the professions you did not choose as your primary, are not available. This means that though you will gain skills from the secondary profession, the profession's main attribute and the ability to use runes from that profession is not available.

[edit] Obtaining a Secondary Profession

Secondary professions, though not available at the very start, are attainable through quests still rather early on in the games. In Nightfall your secondary is gained from First Spear Dehvad from the quest Choose Your Secondary Profession, in Prophecies it is gained from Armin Saberlin in the quest A Second Profession, and in Factions from Master Togo in the quest Choose Your Secondary Profession.

[edit] Prophecies Professions (Main Professions)

These are the only professions of the Prophecies campaign, however they may be selected from in any Guild Wars game.

For more details, see Guild Wars

[edit] Factions Professions

These professions are the characteristic classes of the Factions campaign, however, as a primary class they are only available to characters created in Cantha. They are available in any character created as a secondary profession as long as Factions is part of the account.

For more details, see Guild Wars Factions

[edit] Nightfall Professions

These professions are the characteristic classes of the Nightfall campaign, however, as a primary class they are only available to characters created in Elona. They are available in any character created as a secondary profession as long as Nightfall is part of the account.

For more details, see Guild Wars Nightfall
