Guild Wars 2 is set 250 years after the original Guild Wars game. During that long space of time, there have been countless conflicts and world changing events which has ultimately changed Tyria forever. The civilization of humans is diminishing, no longer able to stand firmly in the face of extinction. At the same time other races have been rising and expanding empires, claiming large territories as their own. Humans no longer hold control and the ancient race of the dragons has been awoken.
Guild Wars 2 was announced in March 2007 and is currently in development. An online beta has not yet been officially confirmed, though ArenaNet suggests a beta will be held shortly before the game launches.
Players will also have the option of transferring their achievements from Guild Wars 1 to Guild Wars 2 by use of the Hall Of Monuments.
In addition to those features, the previously low level-cap of 20 will be raised much higher, possibly even limitless. The game will also feature persistent-world gameplay, instead of private maps whenever players are outside an outpost (although it has been confirmed that plot-related missions will have their own instances). Another significant change is the quest system. Unlike Guild Wars 1, where all quests were fixed, in Guild Wars 2 the quests offered will vary depending on the actions of the players and their impact on the world.
PvP will also change from small 8v8 battles to world-vs-world battles in the mode called the Mists. And unlike the previous PvP, there is no difference between PvE characters and PvP characters in this game. It is confirmed that Guild vs Guild battles will still remain though.
